There are many different types of paving slabs, including concrete, acrylic, stone, etc. Acrylic paving slabs, like concrete ones, are laid out as one big slab. However, this material is of a more delicate nature so it gets used in areas that are a bit smaller than ones used with concrete slabs. The stone, clay, and natural slabs can be used in numbers to form one paving slab. And color can be added to whatever tints are already in the slab itself. Most of these paints are based in acrylic.
A lot of people have started using slate for their outdoor spaces again, whether for patios, walkways, or even driveways, it is making a comeback in a big way. It is hard to believe that people ever started to shy away from slate when you’re looking at a finished project that used it, but those in the know understand that the ongoing maintenance might have people shying away from using the material in their own projects.
What one needs to understand is that though these various slab paving options cost more than the concrete ones they also offer more options on the creative side. All this helps a great deal in making sure that the garden or patio not just looks good but also can be maintained well.
The use that is now growing the fastest (pun certainly intended) is for use in gardens as mulch, or as a surface dressing for paths. As a mulch, slate waste works very well, it comes in a variety of colors, and won’t rot away like wood chips, or other organic materials will. The downside of this of course, is that the slate waste mulch won’t add any nutrients to the soil like other kinds will. As a surface dressing it offers the same variety of colors, along with being cheaper than gravel, and lasting longer than wood chips that some people use.
